Xining People's Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Xining People's Park is the largest public recreational park in Xining, located on the southern bank of the confluence of the Huangshui River and the Beichuan River in the western part of the city. The park was first built in 1959 and has undergone several expansions, now covering an area of over forty hectares. Major recreational facilities include a floral area, an artificial lake, a children’s play zone, an animal viewing area, and an art exhibition hall.

Xining People's Park was first built in 1959, located on the southern bank of the confluence of the Huangshui River and the Beichuan River in the western part of the city. Initially covering a total area of 36 hectares, it has since been expanded several times and now spans over 40 hectares, making it the largest public recreational park in Xining.

The park’s recreational facilities mainly include: a zoo, a floral area, an artificial lake, an open-air theater, a lighted sports court, a children’s playground, as well as restaurants and teahouses among other leisure and sightseeing services. The park is shaded by lush trees, with winding paths, corridors, pavilions by the water, birdsong and fragrant flowers, offering a refined and elegant atmosphere. It is known as an “artificial embroidered landscape” and ranks first among the New Eight Scenic Spots of Xining.

Walking through the park’s vibrantly decorated main gate, brimming with festive cheer, the flower beds scattered across the grassy lawns give off a sense of understated elegance and freshness. Descending the stone steps, you’ll enter a tree-lined boulevard that feels like a green canopy formed by towering trees. Strolling along this verdant pathway is sure to lift your spirits and invigorate your mind. At the end of the tree-lined boulevard stands the uniquely shaped “River Sources” fountain. As you gaze at the soaring dragon of the East, seemingly ready to take flight, its mouth spouts streams of white foam. These foamy waves converge into a gentle trickle that flows into the pool, giving the impression of being at the very source of a mighty river—perhaps this is the symbolic meaning behind the fountain.

The park centers around an artificial lake, which covers nearly 100 acres. The artificial lake was first constructed in 1964 and has been gradually expanded over the years. A tree-lined pathway divides the lake into the West Lake and the East Lake. The East Lake features two small arched bridges, dainty and quaint, with weeping willows along the embankment reflecting on the rippling blue waters, evoking a distinctly Jiangnan aesthetic. On the lake’s central island, weeping willows sweep the ground, while the Lakeside Breeze Pavilion offers a cozy spot for couples to rest, creating a scene of leisure and contentment. Along the western side of the artificial lake lies a 200-meter-long corridor, with waterside pavilions in classic antique style and unique designs. There is also a spacious platform that extends to the lake’s edge, where leaning on the railing gives the illusion of boats gliding across the water. Fishing by the lake is also a delightful pastime. On the northern shore of the lake stands the Lake-Viewing Pavilion. From atop, visitors can take in the full panorama of the lake and surrounding mountains. To the north, the surging Huangshui River flows eastward, while to the south, the vibrant colors of the artificial lake come into view. The lake is ideal for boating in summer and autumn, and serves as a natural ice-skating rink in winter and spring. While enjoying the scenery, visitors can also sip tea, play chess, or enjoy a drink.
