The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Natural Museum is located in Xining City, Qinghai Province. With a total investment of 120 million yuan, it took three years to complete. The museum covers an area of 18,000 square meters, and its main exhibition hall has a total floor space of 15,000 square meters, accommodating up to 2,000 visitors per day. [1] It is currently the largest natural museum in China. Its completion fills a gap in museums both in China and globally that comprehensively showcase the natural ecology of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, making it another “golden calling card” for the region’s tourism resources.

The museum has three floors and currently features 24 exhibition halls, including the Hall of Natural Treasures, Earth’s Riches, Salt Lake Wonders, Azure Seas, Plateau Uplift, and Ice and Snow Zones. These halls display not only large-scale landscapes such as plateau glaciers, canyons, and danxia landforms, but also locally unique specimens. The exhibits mainly consist of animal and plant pose specimens, as well as mineral and salt crystal samples. The museum’s three-dimensional sand table of the “Qinghai-Tibet Plateau” is the largest of its kind in China, followed by the “Beautiful Qinghai” sand table, which provides an intuitive view of the topographic features and distribution of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and Qinghai.

Ticket Information:

Adult ticket: 60 yuan. Children between 1.2m and 1.4m (inclusive), full-time students (with student ID) enjoy a 50% discount. Children under 1.2m and seniors aged 65 and above (with senior ID or ID card) enjoy free admission. Changes may apply; please follow the museum’s official daily notices.
