The Benbutai Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Qinghai Province.

Benbutai Site

Located in Wangjiazhuang Village, Duoba Town, Huangzhong County. Originally, there was a Tibetan Buddhist establishment called Benbu to the west of Wangjiazhuang, and the area is still commonly referred to as Benbutai. The site covers an area of approximately 100×100 meters, with cultural deposits about 70-100 centimeters thick. To the south of the site is a major road, while the west, north, and east sides are surrounded by village houses, with the central part still used as farmland. Pottery shards are scattered across the surface, and some areas show exposed gray layers. The southern road’s cliff face reveals gray layers, ash pits, and the remains of houses with white lime living surfaces. The pottery shards are all from the Qijia Culture, including plain red clay pottery with double handles and abdominal handles, some decorated with basket patterns, as well as sand-tempered pottery with plain surfaces or rope patterns, such as jars and urns. The site has suffered slight damage to its upper layers due to land leveling and village construction but remains relatively well-preserved overall. It is a provincial-level cultural heritage protection unit.
