Shishuwan Site

The Shishuwan Site is a cultural heritage preservation unit of Qinghai Province.

Shishuwan Site

Located in the northwest of Jijia Village, Lijiashan Township, Huangzhong County. Jijia Village lies on the east bank of the Donghe River in the middle section of YunguChuan, with slightly elevated terrain shaped like a tongue in the northwest of the village. The end of the tongue curves northward at the cliff edge. Locals refer to this corner area as Shishuwan (also pronounced Shiyindan), although it is actually contiguous with the village. The site measures about 200×120 meters, with cultural deposits 100–160 centimeters thick. The southeast edge has been severely damaged by soil extraction. During a 1984 survey, the village was still expanding, and large amounts of pottery shards, broken stones, and miscellaneous bones were scattered across homesteads and soil extraction sites. Exposed cliff faces revealed ash layers, ash pits, and indistinct red clay mixed with fine sand used as living surfaces. Human bones and remnants of graves were also found along the western edge. Observed pottery fragments include those from long-necked, double-handled jars, double-handled jars, double-handled ewers, urns, and li tripods made of sandy clay. Stone tools consist of stone axes, stone pestles, and grinding implements, while bone tools include bone awls. Aside from damage caused by soil extraction, the rest of the site remains relatively well preserved and is classified as a site of the Kayue Culture, Kayue type. This site is a provincial-level cultural heritage protection unit.
