Xiaoshi City Site

Located to the west of Yinggeda Village in Duoba Town, Huangzhong County, on the west bank of Zhitu River. The Zhitu River is a small river that flows northward from south to north into the Huangshui River, with a total length of less than 4 kilometers. Although the spring water volume is not large, it flows year-round. To the south of the site is the bend of the Zhitu River, to the north there is a small sandy ditch, to the west are sloping farmlands, and to the east it is adjacent to the bank of the Zhitu River, covering an area of approximately 300×200 meters. The site originally had square stone walls built with river cobbles, slightly smaller in area than the site itself. In the 1960s, the walls were still intact, but after the 1970s, they were gradually dismantled due to land leveling. Local farmers referred to these walls as Xiaoshi City. Currently, no traces remain on the ground, except for about 3 meters of wall foundation and some river cobbles still preserved beneath the covering soil at the northeast corner of the site. As most of the site has been leveled, the central cultural layer has been exposed, while a portion in the west remains undisturbed. Observations of the cross-section of the undisturbed part show that the moved soil layer reaches 100–130 centimeters. From the perspective of the riverbank of the Zhitu River, the original covering soil was about 80–90 centimeters thick, and the movement of the cultural layer was relatively minor, with the deeper parts of the site still well preserved. The site's surface is scattered with numerous pottery shards, animal bones, broken fragments, river cobbles, and fired earth pieces. The cliff face reveals ash layers and ash pits. The cultural accumulation is 90–180 centimeters thick. The pottery shards are all sand-tempered pottery, including vessel types such as long-necked double-handled jars, handleless jars, urns, and li tripods. Stone tools include stone axes, stone knives, and microliths. Based on the pottery, this site is identified as belonging to the Shangsun type of the Kayue culture. The site covers a large area, has a thick cultural accumulation, and is one of the Kayue culture sites with relatively clear evidence of stone-built walls. It is a provincial-level cultural heritage protection unit.

Duoba Town: Duoba Town is one of the 18 towns in Huangzhong County, located 25 km north of Lushar, the county seat of Huangzhong, and 25 km east of Xining, the provincial capital. It borders Huangyuan County to the west, Lanlongkou Town and Lijiashan Town of the same county to the north, Dabaozi Town and Pengjiazhai Town of Xining City to the east, and Ganhetan Town, Handong Township, and Gonghe Town of the same county to the south. The town spans approximately 25 km from east to west and 6 km from north to south, with a total area of 148.76 km².
