Hainan Prefecture Ethnic Museum

The Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Ethnic Museum in Qinghai Province was formerly the cultural group of the Prefecture Mass Art Gallery. It began hosting exhibitions for public viewing in 1962. In June 1986, it was officially established as the Ethnic Museum and is under the administration of the Hainan Prefecture Culture Bureau.

The museum building is a newly constructed structure, shared with the Prefecture TV Station, with the museum occupying three floors of the main building and one and a half floors of the auxiliary building. The total area is 1,070 square meters.

The Prefecture Museum currently has three permanent exhibitions: the "Fossilized Vertebrates" exhibition, which mainly features fossils unearthed locally; the "Historical Relics of Hainan Prefecture" exhibition, a general history display that reveals the region’s historical evolution in the order of social development, showcasing 350 cultural relics; and the "Ethnic and Folk Customs" exhibition, which focuses on the Tibetan ethnic group and displays over 150 religious relics and daily and production items used by the Tibetan people.

The Prefecture Museum houses a collection of more than 5,000 cultural relics, mainly including: over 4,770 historical relics, over 90 fossil specimens, and over 200 ethnic cultural relics.

The museum is located at No. 50 Changfeng Road, Qiaobu Town, Gonghe County, Hainan Prefecture, Qinghai Province.
