Fairy-tale Danish architecture pops up in Tainan — colorful painted restaurant is an eye-catcher

When Denmark in Scandinavia comes to mind, one can’t help but picture rows of fairy-tale-like colorful houses — a romantic and mythical country that’s a favorite travel destination for many. Recently, however, a Nordic-style painted house was spotted on the streets of Tainan, exuding a whimsical fairytale vibe that felt oddly familiar. It turns out this painted house is a restaurant created by an authentic Dane — The Single Sale Republic. From its exterior appearance to the pun in its name, the place radiates a strong Nordic flavor, prompting passersby to stop and take photos.

The owner of Single Sale Republic came to Taiwan through the furniture trade. After living in Tainan for some time, and driven by his love for the island, he opened this restaurant here. Although the restaurant’s exterior features European-style paintwork, the red door at the entrance and the interior decorations still retain a distinct local Tainan flavor, merging the charm of a European bistro with Tainan’s brick textures. The restaurant promotes a healthy lifestyle through its cuisine, offering Western cold dishes, hot meals, and homemade baked desserts. In addition, it also sells Nordic antique furniture.
