Jia Family Mansion

The Jia Family Mansion is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Gansu Province.

The Jia Family Mansion is located behind Yanfang in Qinzhou District, Tianshui City, adjacent to the northern residence of the Hu Family Residence to the south, the Tianshui District People's Government to the east, the Telecom Building to the west, and backing onto the ancient residences behind Yanfang. It covers an area of 2,789 square meters with a built-up area of 2,478 square meters. The Jia Family Mansion was first built during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1711–1799) as the residence of Jia Lexi. His grandson, Jia Zuoxu, styled Yuqing, was a native of Huananpu, Qinzhou (today’s Maiji District, Tianshui), and served as the magistrate of Xichong County and the circuit intendant of Nanchong in Sichuan. In the 6th year of the Republic of China (1917), he was appointed to oversee tobacco and liquor affairs in Gansu. He also served as a member of the National Assembly during the Republican era and as the Director of the Education Department of Gansu Province. During his time in office, Jia Zuoxu resided here for an extended period, during which the residence was expanded to an unprecedented scale. The compound is grand in size, with large timber materials used in its structure, simple yet classic wooden architectural craftsmanship, and finely detailed carvings, making it a typical example of a Qing Dynasty courtyard. It was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit in 1991.
