Tianshui Normal University

The university was established in 1959. In 1988, it was commended and rewarded by the State Education Commission for "cultivating qualified teachers for basic education with a clear direction and outstanding achievements." In 2000, it was upgraded from Tianshui Teachers College to Tianshui Normal University and began enrolling undergraduate students. In May 2007, it passed the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching work level evaluation. In October 2011, it was listed by the Ministry of Education as a pilot institution for training master's degree students in education, and began enrolling and training education master's students in 2013. In 2015, it was listed by Gansu Province as one of the first pilot institutions for transformational development. For decades, the university has adhered to the spirit of "seeking survival in adversity and striving for development through endeavor," and has cultivated tens of thousands of high-quality applied talents, mainly for basic education, earning widespread recognition from society. In recent years, based on its own realities and keeping up with the trend of higher education structural adjustment, it has initially formed four major categories of applied programs: teacher education, engineering technology, business management, and culture, sports, and arts. It has set the goal of building a regional high-level applied university and is fully committed to serving regional economic and social development.

[Institutional Structure] The university has 17 secondary colleges, 3 teaching support units, 64 teaching departments (divisions), 23 party and government administrative bodies and mass organizations; it operates 12 university-affiliated research institutions and 20 college-affiliated research institutions; it hosts 1 country and region research center registered with the Ministry of Education, and 10 provincial and department-level research institutions (platforms) (including 1 provincial engineering technology research center, 1 provincial key laboratory, 3 Gansu Provincial Higher Education Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Bases, 2 Gansu Provincial Higher Education Provincial Key Laboratories, 1 Gansu Provincial Higher Education New Think Tank), and 2 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers.

[Educational Resources] The university covers an area of 670 acres, with a total floor space of 368,000 square meters; it houses a collection of 2.26 million books and 32 types of databases; teaching equipment is valued at 150 million yuan, and fixed assets amount to 847 million yuan. It has built a modern public education service network system centered around distance education, comprehensive academic affairs management, and campus computer, communication, and cable television networks.

[Faculty] The university has a well-structured and high-quality faculty. It currently has 897 staff members, including 691 teachers, 99 professors (including researchers), 260 associate professors, 524 with doctoral or master’s degrees, and 82 master's supervisors. There are 3 National Outstanding Teachers, 1 National Advanced Worker, 2 Experts with Special Government Allowances from the State Council, 2 Candidates Selected for the Ministry of Education's Program for New Century Excellent Talents, 3 Leading Talents of Gansu Province, 1 Outstanding Expert of Gansu Province, 3 Distinguished Professors ("Feitian Scholars") and Young Scholars of Gansu Province, 2 Ethics Role Models of Gansu Province, 22 Gardeners Awards of Gansu Province, 4 Distinguished Teaching Faculty of Gansu Provincial Higher Education Institutions, 4 Outstanding Innovative Talents in the Propaganda and Culture System of Gansu Province ("Four Batches"), 5 Candidates of the Gansu "555" Innovation Talent Project, 2 Candidates of the Gansu Longyuan Youth Innovation Talent Support Program, and 25 Recipients of the "Young Teachers' Achievement Award" of Gansu Provincial Higher Education Institutions.

[Talent Development] The university admits students from 27 provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions) across the country. It currently has a total of 16,513 students, including 14,934 regular undergraduates, 313 postgraduate students, 1,167 continuing education students, 4 international students, and 96 preparatory students.
