Beijiao Park

Beijiao Park is situated in the southeast of Beijing, at the east entrance of Huagong Road. It is the only factory-operated park of a chemical enterprise in Beijing and is affiliated with the Beijing Coking Plant. Originally an internal park of the Beijing Coking Plant, it is now open to the public free of charge. The surrounding environment is pleasant, with many flowers, plants, and trees. It is a popular spot for locals to take walks and exercise, and dog walkers are often seen here.

Beijiao Park is currently managed by Ruiyuan Property Management of the Coking Plant. It is operated as a team under the company, with ten staff members responsible for the daily management of the park. The park receives over 10,000 visitors annually.

Built in 1984, Beijiao Park covers a total area of 28,141 square meters. It features more than 4,000 flowering shrubs and bushes, ensuring blooms in three seasons and evergreen foliage throughout the year. The park also has a water area of over 5,000 square meters, where visitors can go boating in the summer and ice skating in the winter. Willow trees line the lake, their reflections shimmering in the water. The island in the center of the lake is shaded by lush greenery, connected to the shore by a winding curved bridge. Pavilions and sculptures dot the landscape, each creating its own scenic charm. The park is also home to animals such as pearl guinea fowl, peacocks, monkeys, rabbits, and sheep. Among them, two beautiful peacocks and 16 lively and adorable monkeys are the biggest attractions. Visitors often stop by the peacock and monkey enclosures to admire the peacocks’ magnificent feathers and watch the playful monkeys. The “Changchun Pavilion” and “Peony Garden” add further beauty to the park, and during peak blooming seasons, visitors frequently take photos here. The three characters “Changchun Pavilion” were personally inscribed in July 1989 by Hu Jieqing, the wife of the renowned writer Lao She, further enhancing the park’s charm.

Recent Update — “Beijiao Park Temporarily Closed for Rectification; Unlicensed Monkey Keeping Suspected of Violation.” On June 14, this newspaper reported that a monkey in Beijiao Park, Chaoyang District, had been dead for several days with no one cleaning up the body. Yesterday (June 15), Beijiao Park was closed, and a “Temporarily Closed for Rectification” sign was put up. The person in charge stated that the monkey’s body had been removed and buried, and the remaining more than ten monkeys had been relocated to another facility. It is reported that macaques are Class II protected animals in China, and the park did not have a “Wildlife Domestication and Breeding License,” which is suspected to be a violation.
