Shinao Mountain Hundred Regiments Offensive Site

The Shinao Mountain Hundred Regiments Offensive Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Hundred Regiments Offensive Memorial Scenic Area is located in the Shinao Mountain Scenic Zone, 5 kilometers southwest of Yangquan City, Shanxi Province. It was completed in 1995 and named one of the nation’s “Top 100 Patriotic Education Demonstration Bases” by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee in 1997. The Hundred Regiments Offensive Monument stands atop Shinao Mountain and was erected on June 30, 1987. The monument faces south and consists of a main monument, three auxiliary monuments, one large round sculpture, two inscribed tablets, a beacon tower, and a “Great Wall.” The entire complex covers an area of 25 acres. The front of the main monument bears an inscription by Comrade Peng Zhen that reads, “Glorious Achievements Forever Recorded in History.” On either side are inscriptions by Comrade Xu Xiangqian, “Eternal Glory to the Martyrs Who Fought in the Hundred Regiments Offensive,” and by Comrade Bo Yibo, “The Hundred Regiments Offensive, the most brilliant chapter of the War of Resistance Against Japan, will forever shine in the annals of history.” The first inscribed tablet features the seven large characters “Hundred Regiments Offensive Monument” on the front and a “Map of the Hundred Regiments Offensive” on the back. The second inscribed tablet has, on its front and back, the “Inscription for the Hundred Regiments Offensive Monument” and the “Account of the Battle of Shinao Mountain,” both written by the Yangquan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government of the CPC Central Committee. In front of the monument group is a large forged copper round sculpture titled “The Stirring Mother.” The three auxiliary monuments are inlaid with six large forged copper reliefs vividly depicting scenes from the Hundred Regiments Offensive, including “Advancing,” “Destroying Railways,” “Assaulting Fortifications,” “Supporting the Front,” “Relocating,” and “Victory.” Surrounding the Hundred Regiments Offensive Monument complex, facilities such as the Lion Pavilion, Bell Pavilion, and Mushroom Pavilion have been built for visitors to enjoy and rest, along with newly planted forests, making the historically significant Shinao Mountain even more beautiful and magnificent.
