Hundred Regiments Offensive Monument

The Hundred Regiments Offensive Monument is a classic red tourism attraction and a patriotic education base.

To commemorate the great victory of the "Hundred Regiments Offensive" and honor the anti-Japanese martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country, in April 1985, the CPC Yangquan Municipal Committee and the People's Government of Yangquan City, with approval from the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee, decided to build the "Hundred Regiments Offensive Monument" on the main peak of Shinao Mountain. The "Hundred Regiments Offensive Monument" faces south and consists of a main monument, three auxiliary monuments, one large-scale round sculpture, two inscribed monuments, four beacon towers, and a 227-meter-long winding section resembling the Great Wall. It was completed on June 30, 1987.

Structure

The 40-meter-high main monument is shaped like a sharp bayonet. The three sides of the main monument are inscribed with calligraphy by Peng Zhen, Xu Xiangqian, and Bo Yibo.

The first inscribed monument has the seven large characters "Hundred Regiments Offensive Monument" on the front and the "Hundred Regiments Offensive Battle Map" on the back. The second inscribed monument features the "Inscription for the Hundred Regiments Offensive Monument" on the front and the "Summary of the Battle of Shinao Mountain" on the back.

In 1997, the Hundred Regiments Offensive Monument (Museum) was named by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee as one of the first batch of "National Patriotic Education Demonstration Bases," truly establishing it as a top-tier patriotic education site in Yangquan and even across the nation. Here, spring brings blooming mountain flowers; summer offers cool breezes and shady canopies; autumn presents crisp air and red foliage everywhere; winter is covered in silvery white with patches of evergreen. It has evolved into a well-developed forest park and has become the only scenic area in Yangquan where locals and visitors can hike, enjoy the view from above, and take in the panoramic cityscape, attracting millions of visitors each year.
