Today Art Museum

Today Art Museum — China’s first privately-run non-enterprise public welfare art museum. Established in 2002 with Mr. Zhang Baoquan as its founding director, the museum saw Mr. Zhang Zikang take over as director by the end of 2004. Since then, Today Art Museum has been actively involved in promoting the advancement and development of contemporary Chinese art. With its modern vision, international platform, and standardized operations, it strives to explore a sustainable path of development tailored for private art museums in China.

Today Art Museum has established the progressive philosophy of “rooted in today, looking toward the future.” It aims to become a high-caliber contemporary art museum in China and even globally. While focusing on contemporary Chinese art, art movements, and key figures, the museum also emphasizes the discovery and cultivation of promising young contemporary artists. Whether in terms of institutional development or academic practice, its goal is to engage more deeply with the overall progress of contemporary Chinese art and strive to secure its rightful place in the history of Chinese art. At the same time, the museum is committed to international cultural and artistic exchanges. Through exhibitions, academic dialogues, and other forms, it seeks to establish mechanisms for mutual development and explores effective opportunities for collaboration. It spares no effort in fostering positive interactions among domestic and international artists, art institutions, and events, all in an effort to maximize the potential for the growth and evolution of contemporary Chinese art within a global context.

As a privately-run art museum built and operated in accordance with international standards, it has forged a unique development path. In July 2006, it successfully transformed into a truly non-profit institution.
