National Power Science and Technology Exhibition Center

The National Power Science and Technology Exhibition Center is a science education base.

The National Power Science and Technology Exhibition Center is China’s first specialized science and technology venue primarily dedicated to electricity popularization and education. The exhibition hall is sponsored by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission, co-organized by nine major domestic power enterprises and eleven other institutions including the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, and specifically hosted by the Beijing Thermal Power Branch of Shenhua Guohua International Power Co., Ltd. Its completion represents a collective achievement of the power industry. Construction began in 2003, it started receiving visitors in May 2005, and underwent an exhibition redesign in 2012.

The National Power Science and Technology Exhibition Center features a modern-style three-story white circular steel structure as its main building, with a construction area of 1,585 m² and an exhibition area of 1,084 m². It is divided into eight knowledge zones: the Introduction Hall, Electricity Popular Science Zone, History of Power Development Zone, Power Generation Methods and Processes Zone, Power Grid Construction Zone, Three Gorges Project and New Energy Generation Zone, Advanced Power Technologies Zone, and Interactive Cinema. The exhibition center adopts “Harmonious Power, Green Life” as its theme, uses “Electricity Space” artistic elements as its design concept, and aims to stimulate interest in power science. It popularizes power-related scientific knowledge, showcases the development history of China’s power industry, introduces today’s most advanced power technologies and future trends, while actively promoting energy conservation and environmental protection concepts. It also raises public awareness of safe, economical, and scientific electricity use, and fosters a high level of harmony between power development and the social environment.

Since its opening, the National Power Science and Technology Exhibition Center has received over 50,000 visitors, including central government leaders and people from all walks of life. It has been recognized as a Beijing Science Education Base and a National Industrial Tourism Demonstration Site, and was named a Power Science Exhibition Hall by the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering in 2013. It has established collaborative relationships for science education with North China Electric Power University, Tsinghua University, Northern Jiaotong University, as well as surrounding primary and secondary schools and communities. It also serves as a venue for the National Little Ambassadors Selection Competition and hosts summer science camps and other educational activities every year, fully leveraging its role as a science education base for publicity and guidance.
