Daliushu Ghost Market
A ghost market is a type of market in old Beijing.
The night market primarily sold secondhand clothes, but other goods were a mixed bag—some were of dubious origin, others were rare treasures, and still others were fakes meant to deceive. That’s why people also called these night markets “ghost markets.”
Nowadays, only one such ghost market remains in Beijing: the Daliushu Market, which operates only from 0:00 AM until dawn every Wednesday. It is closed at all other times. A ghost market is essentially a late-night “everything” flea market. With the passage of time, it has gradually become a unique attraction and cultural experience in Beijing.
