Xiangshui River Waterfall

Xiangshui River Waterfall, located in Xiangshuihe Township, Yakou District. The river plunges down from rocky cliffs dozens of meters high with tremendous force and deafening roar, audible even ten kilometers away—hence the name “Xiangshui River.”

Areas such as Zhutang, Laba, and Donghui mostly feature karst (limestone) landforms. In these regions, clear springs, caves, underground rivers, and stone forests are scattered across the landscape. Towering stone peaks take on diverse shapes—some resembling lions or steeds, others like pagodas or swords, and still others like battleships or horse manes. At the foot of broken cliffs and beside murmuring streams, clusters of lush green bamboo stand upright, while weeping willows sway gracefully.

In addition, other scenic spots in Lancang County include the Tiger-Leaping Rock by the Lancang River in Yakou District, the Jingmai Tea Mountain in Nuofu, the Natural Bridge in Zhutang District, and the Menglang Reservoir in Menglang Basin.

Before the founding of the People’s Republic of China, there were no recorded accounts of ancient cultural sites in the Lahu-inhabited areas. According to a cultural relics survey conducted from 1983 to 1985, 30 Neolithic collection sites were discovered within Lancang County, where the Lahu people are concentrated. All findings were unearthed from the surface soil layer, including 153 specimens such as chipped and ground trapezoidal stone axes, boot-shaped stone axes, stone knives, stone hoes, and stone rings.
