Mangjing Village

There are two major villages on Jingmai Mountain: Jingmai Village lies halfway up the mountain, while Mangjing Village sits at the summit. It is currently China’s largest ancient tea tree production area, especially Mangjing Village, which sits at an altitude of around 1,450 meters and belongs to a high-altitude large-leaf ancient tea tree region. The area follows the principles of the natural food chain — no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides are used on the tea plants. The roads are all paved with stone slabs, and even the use of cement in house construction must be reported to the municipal government. The scenery here is stunning — watch the sea of clouds and sunrise in the morning, and the sunset and clouds in the evening. The Bulang people of Mangjing Village are simple, warm, kind, and generous. Amazingly, there is no theft and doors are left unlocked at night; many homes don’t even have locks. Truly, it’s a paradise on earth!

Mangjing Village is nestled in a narrow valley, surrounded by lush forests on the mountains and neatly arranged tea trees on the slopes. The ancient tea gardens are only visible after crossing a mountain. The village houses are built along the mountain slopes, each with unique features. Dozens of courtyards stand in rows, and winding paths crisscross the area. The village has a strong commercial atmosphere, with services such as “Jingmai Mangjing Bulang People’s Cooperative” and “Ancient Tea Garden Restaurant” homestays visible right by the roadside. Most of the houses in the village have been rebuilt, but the architectural style and room layouts still retain their traditional features.

Mangjing Village has three attractions: the Tomb of the Brown Princess, the Tea Soul Altar, and the King Bee Tree.

Transportation is convenient, with buses from Mangjing to Lancang running twice a day at 7:30 and 13:30.
