Mengla Wangtianshu is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Wangtianshu is one of the unique tree species in Xishuangbanna Prefecture, found only in areas such as Buwa and Jingpiao in Mengla County. Belonging to the Dipterocarpaceae family, it is an evergreen tall tree. With its straight and towering height of seventy to eighty meters, it pierces the blue sky like a sharp sword, earning it the nicknames "Giant of the Forest" and "Prince of Forest Beauty." The Wangtianshu is highly adaptable, has a long lifespan, and serves many purposes, which is why it is listed as a national first-class protected plant.

The Mengla Buwa Wangtianshu Scenic Area is located within the Buwa National Nature Reserve, northeast of Mengla County, covering an area of 20 hectares. It is about ten kilometers from the county town, with six kilometers already paved. The scenic area includes guesthouses and a canopy walkway, offering both sightseeing and accommodation. Transportation and infrastructure are gradually being improved. If you visit the Wangtianshu Scenic Area, the first thing you must do is experience the "Canopy Walkway," which offers a thrilling and exhilarating feeling. This walkway stretches 2.5 kilometers and is constructed by connecting sturdy iron cables between tall Wangtianshu trees. It is suspended by steel ropes, with nylon ropes and nets as railings, and aluminum alloy ladders as steps. Each section connects to wooden platforms built on the tree trunks, showcasing the diligence and wisdom of the local people. This is the first canopy walkway in China. The walkway is over 20 meters high, allowing visitors to stroll leisurely while enjoying panoramic views of the pristine forest and the diverse tropical plant communities. Next, you can explore the wonders of nature in the tropical rainforest of the Wangtianshu Scenic Area. As you walk through the woods, the clear sound of babbling streams fills the air, birds sing from the treetops, and the mid-canopy layers feature vines, epiphytes, ferns, and especially the dramatic phenomenon of strangler figs that keep your eyes busy. If you're lucky, you might even pick wild fruits like ternate grapefruit and olives to enjoy.

The Wangtianshu Scenic Area in Mengla attracts many visitors with its unique charm. It is definitely an ideal destination for leisure and summer retreat.

In the Nanla River of Mengla County, there lives a small fish about six to seven centimeters long. This fish looks no different from ordinary fish under normal circumstances. But once caught, its body inflates like a balloon and makes a squeaking sound, quickly turning into a round ball. It is called the "Bubble Fish."

Transportation

The Wangtianshu Scenic Area is located 14 kilometers northeast of Mengla County in Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, approximately 140 kilometers from Jinghong City.

① Jinghong – Mengla

Bus: Take a bus from the Xishuangbanna Passenger Transport Station (locally known as Fantai Factory) heading toward Mengla. Buses run every half hour, with a journey of about 3 hours and a fare of around 50 RMB per person.

Private Car: Hiring a car from Jinghong to the scenic area costs between 400–500 RMB.

② Mengla – Wangtianshu Scenic Area

Bus: Purchase a ticket at the Mengla County Passenger Transport Station to the Wangtianshu Scenic Area. The fare is 8 RMB, and the ride takes about 20 minutes. Be sure to inform the driver to drop you off at the "Wangtianshu Ticket Office" at the Bubang Wharf.

Taxi: Taking a taxi from Mengla County Town to the scenic area costs between 60–80 RMB.

[Transportation Within the Scenic Area]

There is an additional approximately 4-kilometer journey from the ticket office to the scenic area. You can take the scenic area’s electric shuttle bus, which runs every 30 minutes for round trips.

Tickets

The individual scenic area ticket is 75 RMB per person. The combo ticket is 198 RMB per person (includes the scenic area entrance ticket at 75 RMB + a one-way Nanla River sightseeing cruise ticket at 40 RMB + the Canopy Walkway/Rainforest Canopy Bridge at 120 RMB).
