Tomb of Xu Sheng The Tomb of Xu Sheng is located at the southern foot of Zhuolin Slope and is a county-level cultural relic protection unit. The tomb’s occupant, Xu Sheng, originally served as the Assistant Commander of the Nanjing Right Guard during the Ming Dynasty. In the 18th year of the Hongwu era (1385), he campaigned in Sizhou, and in the 19th year (1386), he campaigned in Jingzhou, earning a promotion to Joint Commander. In the 23rd year of Hongwu (1390), in the intercalary fourth month, he led troops to open up Pingxi, establish a guard post, and build a city. He was appointed as the Seal-Holding Commander and was granted the title of General Who Pacifies the Nation. In the 57th year of the Qianlong era (1792), the tombstone was re-erected. The main inscription on the tombstone reads: “Tomb of Xu Sheng, Ancestral Founding Joint Commander of Pingxi Guard, General Who Pacifies the Nation, of the Ming Dynasty.” On the left side, it is inscribed: “The deceased was a native of Quanjiao, Jiangnan. He inherited the position of Commander of the Nanjing Right Guard. In the 18th year of Hongwu, he joined the campaign against the mountain tribes of Sizhou. In the 19th year, he campaigned against rebel tribes in various parts of Jingzhou, and for his merit, was promoted to Joint Commander. On the first day of the intercalary fourth month in the 23rd year, he led troops to open up Pingxi, established the guard administration, built the city walls, and developed farmland for garrison. He became the pioneering ancestor of the Xu family who settled in Pingxi, and was originally buried here.”
