Longyan Cave in Zunyi

Longyan Cave is located on Jiulong Mountain in Qingkeng Village, Fengxiang Town, Zunyi County, approximately 50 kilometers from downtown Zunyi and 1 kilometer from the Zunren Highway.

The cave developed within Cambrian dolomitic limestone hills. Due to orogenic movements, the earth's crust uplifted, Jiulong Mountain rose, and water levels cut downward, creating this high-altitude karst cave. It boasts a complex variety of karst deposits and chamber structures, showcasing a rich diversity of multi-level, multi-type, and multi-pattern landscapes all in one place.

Throughout the cave, you’ll find standalone columns, compound columns, parallel-linked columns, parasitic columns, and drip-formed displaced and deformed columns — some with blossoms atop, others wearing caps, all breathtakingly beautiful. The cave walls and slopes are covered with stone helmets, drums, basins, windows, and beasts; numerous stone tumors, eggs, broccoli-like formations, corals, and jade lingzhi mushrooms can also be seen. The cave also features dramatic landforms and spatial formations such as canyons, shafts, vertical cliffs, hanging platforms, large slopes, sinkholes, karst mounds, and stone waterfalls. The natural colors of the karst formations range from milky white, golden yellow, dark green, bluish-gray, brown-yellow, to earthy brown, decorating the cave chambers in resplendent and varied hues. This still actively developing young cave is a pristine, untouched karst wonder shaped by water without pollution or destruction. The magical flow of water has silently crafted masterpieces deep in the mountain’s core, with works of art so exquisite they defy human tools, and landscapes so uniquely formed without design. This is a place of wonder, dreams, illusion, and paradise.

Wang Zhaoyang and Jin Deming, associate researchers at the Guizhou Provincial Institute of Scenic Karst and renowned cave experts, confirmed in their planning report: “The colorful and diverse karst formations of the magnificent Longyan Cave are exceptionally well-preserved. The richness and uniqueness of its dripstone formations make it stand out among the thousands of caves discovered in Guizhou so far, and it is a major spectacle along the northern Guizhou tourism route.”

Fengxiang Town: Located in the western part of Zunyi County, it covers an area of 148 square kilometers with a population of 33,500, including ethnic groups such as Han, Miao, Yi, and Gelao. It administers 1 neighborhood committee and 20 village committees. Established as Fengxiang Township in 1949, it was restructured into a commune in 1958. In 1962, it was divided into the communes of Fengxiang, Zhifang, Huamao, and Qingkeng. In 1984, it was reorganized into Fengxiang Town along with Zhifang and Huamao Townships.
