Pai Shao Miao Village

Pai Shao Miao Village is located in the heart of the Yaoren Mountain National Forest Park, east of the Lalang Community in Sandu Shui Autonomous County, 19 kilometers from the county seat of Sandu. The village has a total of 386 households and 1,527 people, over 95% of whom are ethnic Miao, making it the largest naturally formed Miao settlement in Qiannan Prefecture. Pai Shao is the oldest and best-preserved natural village in the prefecture. The mountain village is rustic and pristine, situated in a lofty and majestic landscape. The houses are built along the mountainside in a scattered yet orderly fashion, all featuring traditional wooden stilt-style architecture. The wooden buildings are adorned with carved lattice windows and feature “beauty’s lean” style railings, embodying classic Miao ethnic design. The entire settlement looks naturally integrated, with trees and bamboo dotting the village and stunning, picturesque scenery all around. A foreign visitor once praised Pai Shao as “a village where heaven and earth meet.” The Miao people of Pai Shao are known for their simplicity, unique customs, and love of singing and dancing. It is an ecologically preserved cultural space that combines breathtaking natural landscapes with rich ethnic charm.
