The “Flowers and Fish” digital art installation, a collaboration between Kanagawa’s Shin-enkaku Island Aquarium and Japan’s TeamLab, combines the aquarium’s fish with stunning light effects to transport visitors into a fantastical, dreamlike realm. The exhibit will be on display inside the aquarium from now until December 25.

The “Flowers and Fish” installation projects colorful leaves and petals onto schools of fish swimming in tanks. As the fish swim by, random bursts of blooming flowers appear. When the radiant projections touch the fish, the flowers scatter into delicate petals that slowly fade from view. Each scene is uniquely generated based on the random movements of the fish in the tank, ensuring a one-of-a-kind visual experience every time. In addition to this, the aquarium also features other interactive exhibits—such as the “Reactive Spheres,” which change color in response to human presence, and the “Graffiti Aquarium,” where visitors can project ocean creatures they’ve drawn onto the tanks.
