Gulu is the core hinterland of Yaoren Mountain—China’s Shui Ethnic Culture Valley, one of Guizhou Province’s “100 Scenic Areas,” and is located to the south of Sandu County. It lies 6 kilometers from the county seat and is named after the traditional Gulu village. The scenic area encompasses five ethnic villages with 258 households and 1,093 residents, most of whom are from the Shui ethnic group. The planned area is 4.5 square kilometers, and in 2010, it was rated as a National AAA-level Tourist Attraction.
