Qianxi Guanyindong Site
The Qianxi Guanyindong Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
The Qianxi Guanyindong Site is located in Jingshan Village, Shajing Township, Qianxi County, Guizhou Province. It is a Paleolithic site dating back approximately from 200,000 to 40,000 years ago.
The cave deposits reach a thickness of 9 meters and are divided into upper and lower sections. Over 3,000 stone artifacts have been discovered, including cores, flakes, choppers, points, awls, borers, and various other types. The materials, manufacturing techniques, and combinations of tool types exhibit distinctive local characteristics, reflecting the developmental features of Paleolithic culture in southwestern China. More than 20 species of mammalian fossils have been found, particularly abundant in stegodon and rhinoceros remains, which are closely associated with early human hunting activities. These discoveries provide extremely important material for studying the history of early human development in the southwestern region.
According to appraisals by Chinese paleoanthropologists, the unearthed artifacts from the Shajing Guanyindong Site in Qianxi are typical representatives of early Paleolithic culture south of the Yangtze River. They prove that ancient humans were active here as early as 500,000 to 600,000 years ago, making it one of the birthplaces of ancient humans in China. (National Cultural Heritage Administration)
