Huangguoshu Exotic Stone Museum

The "Huangguoshu Exotic Stone Museum" is situated at the parking lot of the Huangguoshu Ecotourism Center. With a floor space of 3,000 square meters, its planning and preparation commenced in late 2009. It is a cultural tourism experience project launched by the Huangguoshu Scenic Area for the 2010 summer tourism market, combining elements of geography, geology, science education, traditional Chinese aesthetics, and traditional stone culture. It can be regarded as a living textbook on the geological evolution of Guizhou.

The Huangguoshu Exotic Stone Museum is divided into three main sections: the "Ancient Times Gallery," the "Elegant Charm Gallery," and the "Dreamy Crystal Gallery." It showcases global gemstone specimens such as "Hundred Dragons," "Hundred Flowers," elegant stones, and mineral crystals, as well as jade carvings. The collection includes over ten genera and more than 40 species of ancient fossils, totaling nearly 100 pieces. Among them are typical specimens such as the Guanling crinoid from Guizhou, the Hu’s Guizhou Dragon, the Guanling ichthyosaur, the placodont, and the Panxian mixosaur. Elegant stones on display feature various colors—green, black, red, and yellow—and include more than 500 unique stones collected from water systems such as the Panjiang, Wujiang, and Hongshui rivers, as well as other areas across the province. There are also over 300 pieces of mineral crystal stones from Guizhou Province and other parts of China. The museum also embraces a wide range of nationally renowned stone varieties, including Wuling stones, Lingbi stones, Dafu stones, and yellow wax stones, showcasing them comprehensively. Ouyang Ziyuan, a world-renowned cosmochemist and geochemist and the chief scientist of China's lunar exploration program, personally inscribed the words “The Great Waterfall Sketches the Karst, the Exotic Stone Museum Displays Time’s Changes,” which fully affirms the museum’s significance in geographic science education.
