Longmen Mountain Scenic Area is a national-level scenic spot.

Longmen Mountain Scenic Area is located in western China—Pengzhou, Chengdu, Sichuan Province—within the central section of the Longmen Mountain Range where the Sichuan Basin transitions into the Tibetan Plateau. Its highest peak, Taizicheng, reaches 4,812 meters. The area comprises Danjing Mountain, Yinchanggou, Jiufeng Mountain, and Mazongling, with a planned area of 203 square kilometers. Pengzhou is known as the “Golden Peng of the Land of Abundance” and the “fertile land of Shu,” with a recorded history of three thousand years.

Longmen Mountain has been a famous tourist destination in western Sichuan since ancient times. Poets and scholars throughout the ages—including Wang Bo, Gao Shi, Lu You, Wang Yuanliang, Yang Shen, and Li Diaoyuan—visited here to explore its beauty and praised it as the “Land Where the Heavenly Emperor Holds His Court” and the “Home of Outstanding Spirits.” With birds singing and flowers blooming in all four seasons, it is known as the “Mountain of Flowers in Western China.”

The Longmen Mountain Scenic Area features steep peaks, deep valleys, and boasts grandeur, danger, wonder, serenity, and charm. It offers a rich array of natural sights, including birds and beasts, flowing springs and waterfalls, deep canyons, plank roads, peculiar rocks, rainbows, divine lamps, Buddha’s halo, and unique flora and fauna. It is the mountain canyon-type scenic area closest to a major city.

The Longmen Grand Canyon (Yinchanggou) scenic zone is the highlight of Longmen Mountain Scenic Area. Stretching 50 kilometers, the valley is surrounded by towering peaks, layered mountains, deep canyons, and jagged rocks. Rushing waterfalls and springs, mysterious and ever-changing rainbows, and winding, thrilling cliffside plank paths—which form the longest walking trail among China’s scenic areas—are considered a unique marvel of western Sichuan. In summer, the temperature rarely exceeds 25°C, making it a natural air conditioner and an ideal summer retreat. Jiufeng Mountain scenic area gets its name from the description “majestic peaks rising from the earth, standing in a line of nine.” Among the nine peaks, four exceed 4,000 meters in elevation. Commonly referred to as Jiufeng Mountain, it is actually known as Flame Peak. The area features craggy rocks, misty clouds, tall forests, and occasional sightings of giant pandas. Ascending to Leiyin Temple at the top of Jiufeng Mountain offers panoramic views of highland landscapes and spectacular natural phenomena such as sunrises, sea of clouds, Buddha’s halo, and divine lamps.

Mazongling, at an elevation of 3,508 meters, gets its name from its steep peak that resembles an angry horse’s mane. Vast forests of alpine azaleas cover the mountain, spanning tens of thousands of acres—an absolutely breathtaking sight.

Longmen Mountain Scenic Area enjoys convenient transportation, reliable telecommunications, and well-developed facilities. There are currently eight high- and mid-range hotels and dozens of rural guesthouses, offering over 8,000 beds in total. It is a fully equipped scenic area that combines tourism, scientific research, vacationing, and summer health retreats.
