Silver Cang Gorge

Silver Cang Gorge is located within the Yinchanggou Scenic Area in Longmen Mountain Town, Pengzhou City, about 89 kilometers from Chengdu. The gorge reaches depths of 500 to 1,000 meters and stretches over 4,000 meters. Towering cliffs rise steeply on both sides, shrouded in mist and veined with thick underbrush. The mountaintops are dotted with massive, imposing rock formations that resemble fierce beasts glaring down menacingly. The bottom of the gorge is strewn with huge boulders, where surging rapids crash against rocks, creating roaring waves that surge forward. Within the valley, wooden ladders form rugged and steep pathways; travelers sometimes wade through water, at other times climb ladders over ridges, scale cliffs with ropes, or cross narrow single-plank bridges. In the middle of the gorge lies a section known as the “Dragon’s Mouth,” about 200 meters long, where the river seems to vanish into the earth before re-emerging, resembling a dragon lying in the gorge that swallows the water and then spits it out from its tail—hence the name “Dragon’s Mouth.”
