China Butterfly Eco-City

The China Butterfly Eco-City is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Pengzhou China Butterfly Eco-City tourist attraction is a grand garden of butterflies and also an excellent place for science education. Butterflies in Sichuan are mainly distributed in the western mountainous areas of the Longmen Mountain Range. Today, this region is home to 512 species of butterflies, many of which are unique to western Sichuan and world-renowned as prized ornamental butterflies.

Nestled against the Longmen Mountain Range, the China Butterfly Eco-City boasts beautiful surroundings and fresh air. Visitors can also enjoy activities such as jungle trekking adventures, camping, picnicking, barbecuing, and paintball.

The Flower Goddess Pool consists of five cascading pools adorned with lotus flowers. It is said that the Flower Goddess descended to the mortal realm, causing a profusion of blossoms that attracted thousands of butterflies dancing and fluttering around — a delightful interplay of “butterflies” and “lotuses.” Hence, a lotus pond was created here and named the Butterfly-Lotus Pool. It is filled with lotus flowers, serving not only to echo the Flower Goddess’s divine pool and soothe her longing for her homeland while in the Longmen Mountains, but also to symbolize the romantic love story of the Flower Goddess and Shennong, the “Butterfly and Flower” tale.

The China Butterfly Eco-City is located in Dabao Village, Longfeng Town, covering an area of over 500 acres. The park includes various zones such as a butterfly research institute, butterfly viewing area, butterfly food garden, butterfly manor, butterfly wedding square, four-season orchard, fairy tale castle, wedding photography base, and DIY experience area.

In the science museum, visitors can learn a great deal about butterflies, including their metamorphosis process. The specimen exhibition hall displays a variety of rare butterfly specimens, such as the dead leaf butterfly from Mount Emei, the golden birdwing from Japan, and the blue morpho, the national treasure of Brazil.

Today, there are over 30,000 butterfly specimens here, and the number of live butterfly species is expected to grow from 8 to more than 20. The Butterfly City is home not only to Chinese butterflies but also to “foreign butterflies” from countries like Brazil. They flutter here, showcasing their beauty and making it an ideal destination for butterfly watching and experiencing the wonders of nature.
