Dayi Zilong Temple (General’s Temple) is a cultural tourism attraction.

Also known as General’s Temple, Zilong Temple is located in Dayi County, Chengdu. It sits at the foot of Yinping Mountain, about 1 kilometer east of Dayi County town, in front of the tomb of Zhao Yun. In 1930, it was designated as a suburban park, and pavilions such as an expanded lotus pond, moon-viewing terrace, Plum Blossom Pavilion, Little Cangzhou, and Occupied Lotus Pavilion were built within the temple grounds, making the environment of Zilong Temple even more spacious and beautiful. Especially during the annual temple fair, visitors from near and far flock to the site, creating a bustling and uniquely delightful atmosphere. In recent years, the main hall, side rooms, mountain pathways, lotus pond, Occupied Lotus Pavilion, and Little Cangzhou have been restored, reviving the site’s former charm and making it an important tourist destination in Dayi County.

Zilong Temple was built to commemorate Zhao Yun, a famous general of the Shu Han kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period. On the 15th day of the first lunar month, Qingming Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival, visitors and worshippers come in an endless stream to pay respects at the general’s tomb and admire the historic site. The fair also features Sichuan opera performances on temporary stages, and merchants gather in large numbers, making the place bustling with activity. The temple is majestic and grand, with a golden statue of General Zhao Zilong enshrined in the main hall, exuding heroic spirit. Behind the main hall lies the tomb of Zilong, which is as large as a small hill. Built against the mountain, the tomb is set in a serene and solemn environment. In front of the tomb stands a large brick-and-wood quadrangle courtyard that can accommodate hundreds of visitors. In the courtyard, there is a seven-foot-tall and three-foot-wide tombstone inscribed with “Tomb of Zhao Yun, Marquis of Shunping of the Han Dynasty,” flanked by stone couplets inlaid with gold characters: “With undivided loyalty he guarded the Kingdom of Shu; with wholehearted devotion he protected the nation.” From the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong era to the late Qing period, successive magistrates of Dayi County came here to pay homage, and some even composed poems to express their sentiments. Having endured a thousand years of history, Dayi Zilong Temple was restored and rebuilt after the Wenchuan earthquake.
