Mount Qingcheng’s Zhao Gong Mountain

Zhao Gong Mountain is the main peak of Mount Qingcheng, located to the west of Dujiangyan City. It is an ideal hiking destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

There are two hiking routes. The West Route: the starting point is Qunyi Village. You can take a bus from Chadianzi Bus Station to Shuimo, get off at the Zengjiagou Bridge, and then contact a local chartered driver. The fare to the hiking starting point is 50 yuan per vehicle. Alternatively, you can charter a car from Dujiangyan High-Speed Railway Station to the hiking starting point, which generally costs 150 yuan per vehicle. The West Route is less challenging than the East Route. The average hiking time is around 2 hours. There are well-formed wooden branch paths. Crampons are needed in winter.

The East Route: the starting point is Longfeng Village. It usually takes about 4.5 hours (without a heavy load). It takes roughly 2 hours from the mountain foot to Qingyun Temple at the halfway point, and about 2.5 hours from Qingyun Temple to Zhao Gong Temple. The hiking path is generally divided into three sections: the first section is a stone-paved road, which is relatively easy to walk; the second section is a muddy path, which becomes very slippery when it rains—hiking poles (or wooden branches) are recommended for both ascent and descent; the third section is a wooden branch path, which is also relatively easy. Crampons for snow are required for winter hikes.

Zhao Gong Temple offers shared dormitory-style lodging, or you can bring your own sleeping bag and tent. Food and accommodation at the mountaintop (dinner + lodging + breakfast) cost around 30 yuan. You may also bring your own food to be cooked on-site. The temperature difference at the summit is significant, so bring warm clothing for the night. The descent takes approximately three and a half hours.

From the mountaintop, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Dujiangyan City, which is especially beautiful when the city lights are lit up at night.
