Sertar Dongga Monastery

Sertar Dongga Monastery is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

The monastery was founded in 1686 by Quxiwujin. The main hall covers a construction area of approximately 800 square meters and stands about 10 meters high. Inside the hall, there is a seated statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, along with religious murals and painted sculptures. The red pillars are carved with dragons and floral designs, displaying vivid colors, a solemn and sacred atmosphere, and a majestic grandeur. This monastery—En Deng Quji Nima once practiced in India for several years last year and attained enlightenment. The King of Indian Buddhism respectfully honored him with the Dharma title “Kangqu Pu-,” which means one who can fly over water.

The monastery currently houses long-preserved precious relics, including one thousand-bell set, one Zengqi (alms bowl) painting, one silver-gilt incense burner, and more than ten small gilded Buddhist statues made of copper. For over three hundred years, the monastery has systematically taught both exoteric and esoteric Buddhist teachings, nurturing many Khenpos proficient in sutras and tantras, as well as remarkable achievers of spiritual realization. The Second Dong Dongga Rinpoche, at the age of nineteen, gained fame across the snowy lands by flying across the Yarlung Tsangpo River, becoming the spiritual teacher of the Eighth Dalai Lama and a revered figure among the kings of Nepal and Bhutan.
