Road running events are hugely popular in Taiwan, and now even the God of Wealth is getting in on the action. On October 17, 2015, the Huludao Temple in Zhonghe District, New Taipei City, will host the first-ever Flying Dragon Cup Huludao Marathon. The event combines the unique culture and local beliefs of the Zhonghe area, giving it special significance. All participants who complete the marathon will receive a medal engraved with the image of the God of Wealth and “fortune money” from the Nanshan Fude Temple, blessing everyone with safety, wealth, and prosperity.

The first Flying Dragon Cup Huludao Marathon is the very first marathon ever held in the Zhonghe area of New Taipei City. Supported by both local communities and government bodies, this running event is initiated by civic groups and includes42.2a full marathon (42 km),21.1a half marathon (21 km),12and a 10 km competitive race. The course runs downhill from the Nanshan Fude Temple on Huludao Mountain, turns around, and then returns uphill, offering considerable challenge. A total of6200runners are expected to participate. In addition, the event also incorporates unique elements of the Zhonghe area’s culture, such as the water-splashing traditions of Myanmar Street, the Nanshi Corner Night Market, fortune money from the Nanshan Fude Temple, the Huludao God of Wealth mascot, and plenty of food, fun, and entertainment. After the run, there will be Taiwanese-style banquet culture, pole dancing, and electric parade deities – blending running with local tourism in a truly entertaining way.
