No matter what religious beliefs one holds, there is always a sacred place in the hearts of believers that they must visit. Sertar Larung Gar Five Sciences Buddhist Academy is one such place. Kilometers of small wooden cabins stretch across the mountainside, a splash of red faith under the blue sky. Each tiny house serves as a dormitory for thousands of practitioners. Temples and shrines are scattered throughout, where believers and monks come and go to worship. The air is filled with an unmistakable aura of devout faith.

Sertar Larung Gar Five Sciences Buddhist Academy was founded in 1980 with just over 30 people. Within just a few years, it rapidly expanded, and now it is home to more than 5,000 resident monks, nuns, and practitioners. An increasing number of devotees have come to live here, and houses have gradually spread across the mountains, propelling it to become the world’s largest Tibetan Buddhist academy.
