Former Administrative Office Building of the People's Broadcasting Station of Xikang Province

The former administrative office building of the People's Broadcasting Station of Xikang Province is located within the Ya'an Meteorological Bureau on Huanshan Road, southeast of Cangping Mountain in Yucheng District. Two well-preserved Soviet-style buildings remain, currently serving as the office building of the Ya'an Meteorological Bureau’s Meteorological Service Center and the “Artificial Weather Modification Office.” Both buildings were constructed in 1953, one being single-story and the other three-story.

The People's Broadcasting Station of Xikang Province officially began broadcasting on September 1, 1952, becoming the first wireless radio station in Ya'an’s history. The station had a broadcasting power of one kilowatt. Its transmission tower was built at that time on Shangba in the eastern part of the city (the former site of the Ya'an Regional Administrative Office). In the spring of 1953, the Xikang People's Broadcasting Station moved from its temporary office at the Xikang Daily Newspaper to its new site on Cangping Mountain.

In its early days of broadcasting, the Xikang People's Broadcasting Station aired programs three times a day, featuring six columns including “Xikang News,” “Government Notices and Announcements,” and “Lectures on Knowledge.” It also regularly rebroadcast Tibetan-language programs from the Central People's Broadcasting Station. Self-produced programs accounted for 38% of total broadcast time, eventually increasing to 54%. The station not only focused on current news reporting but also emphasized cultural and entertainment programs for the public. Broadcast hours increased year by year, and content became increasingly diverse.

In July 1955, the Second Session of the First National People's Congress passed a resolution to abolish the Xikang Provincial administrative division, with its territory incorporated into Sichuan Province. The People's Broadcasting Station of Xikang Province was subsequently merged into the Sichuan People's Broadcasting Station.

The People's Broadcasting Station of Xikang Province ceased broadcasting on September 30, 1955.
