Muxi Bamboo Sea

The Muxi Bamboo Sea is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Muxi Bamboo Sea is located in Yongfu Town on National Highway 213, southeast of Muxi County. It is 20 kilometers from Muxi County, 120 kilometers from Leshan, and over 200 kilometers from Chengdu. The scenic area spans more than 50 square kilometers and features Danxia landform, with an average elevation of 450 meters. The central tourist zone alone boasts over 10 square kilometers of forest and bamboo. Rolling mountains and valleys are covered by over 100,000 acres of lush Neosinocalamus affinis bamboo. When the breeze blows, green waves ripple across the landscape, stretching endlessly — hence the name “Bamboo Sea.”

The area features over 70 attractions, including the naturally formed “Xiaodong Flying Rainbow,” the winding and thrilling “Chuandongzi Nine Rapids and Eighteen Shoals,” the landscape-integrated Yongxing Lake, the secluded Yongxing Temple nestled among the mountains, and the mysterious and rugged Taoyuan Cave. There are also rare animals and plants such as wild monkeys, squirrels, and tree ferns. The endless sea of swaying bamboo is a feast for the eyes, perfect for watching sunrises and listening to the rustling bamboo — a truly mesmerizing experience. Moreover, the “Bamboo Sea” is known for its fresh air year-round and is often hailed as a “natural oxygen bar.”

Key attractions include: Xiaodong Flying Rainbow, Yinzi Rock, Yongxing Lake, Shuiyue Wind Cave, Guanhai Tower, Shenlong Pool, and more.

Muxi’s “Xiaodong Flying Rainbow” has been selected as one of “Sichuan’s Most Beautiful Unique Attractions.”

As a national AAA-level scenic area, the Muxi Bamboo Sea is home to the highly oxygen-rich environment near the “Xiaodong Flying Rainbow Waterfall,” which is extremely beneficial to health. Coupled with its uniquely beautiful natural scenery, it has been winning increasing favor among tourists from both within and outside the province.

Newly developed projects include a bamboo forest SPA center, boutique teahouses, wedding photography platforms, Guanhai Tower, Yongxing Lake wetlands, a bamboo forest ancient path cultural art corridor, a shooting range, a real-life CS training field, a fishing experience area, a fish cuisine center, tent camping zones, off-road experience tracks, bars, and more.

The Muxi Bamboo Sea features Danxia landform. The area enjoys lush vegetation, abundant bamboo resources, undulating mountain ranges, crisscrossing ravines, and striking Danxia features — creating a naturally stunning landscape painting. The scenic area lies along the Muyuan River Valley, an important branch of the Southern Silk Road, and is rich in historical and cultural heritage. It includes the Sanyanzhai fortress, the first key military stronghold during Zhuge Liang’s southern campaign in the Three Kingdoms period; military fortifications built during the Southern Song Dynasty; and a hub for handmade paper production in the mid-Qing Dynasty. Legends such as the story of the Qing Dynasty scholar Chen Hanlin and the Imperial List Rock, Yuxi Spring Festival couplets, Han Xiangzi playing the flute, and the gathering of the Eight Immortals add a touch of charm. Yongfu Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Muxi County. In 1956, it was established as Jianquan Township; in 1958, it became Jianquan Commune; in 1961, Tianjiaba Commune was formed after separating from Jianquan and Naxi townships; in 1981, it was renamed Yongfu Commune; in 1984, it became a township; in 1992, Jianquan Township was merged into it to form Yongfu Town. Located in the southeastern part of the county, it is 21 kilometers from the county seat. Covering an area of 126.6 square kilometers, it has a population of 16,000. National Highway 213 runs through the town.
