Over the course of more than half a century in education, the university has adhered to the socialist direction in running schools, implemented the educational policies of the Party and the state, followed the laws of higher education development, and upheld the basic national policy of gender equality. It has consistently advanced in step with the nation’s economic and social development, kept pace with the progress of higher education, and moved in the same direction as the global advancement of women. Through perseverance, self-improvement, continuous overcoming of challenges, and constant innovation, the university has achieved multiple leaps in development. It has established the goals of building a “National Research Center for Women’s Education,” a “National Research Center for Women’s Theory,” a “National Training Center for Women Cadres,” an “International Exchange Center for Women’s Education,” and a “First-Class Women’s University.” It has grown into an important base for cultivating female talent, a think tank serving national strategies and women’s development, and a window showcasing the achievements of women’s higher education in China. The university enjoys a good reputation and wide influence both at home and abroad.

The university is committed to cultivating well-rounded female talents with moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic development, who embody the “Four Selfs” spirit (self-respect, self-confidence, self-reliance, and self-improvement), a sense of public service, an international perspective, and refined intellect. Students report high satisfaction with their growth, and graduates are highly regarded by employers for their strong sense of responsibility and loyalty. The university has a faculty and staff of 506, including 249 full-time teachers, with a number of national and provincial-level teaching teams and distinguished educators. Faculty members are deeply involved in the research and formulation of national laws and policies related to women and children. Research in women’s and gender studies has become a strength and specialty of the university. The university maintains an open approach to education and actively engages in comprehensive, multi-level international exchanges and cooperation, having established partnerships with 26 overseas universities and institutions in more than ten countries and regions.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the university will adhere to the strategies of “building quality, developing distinctive features, strengthening talent, and beautifying the environment.” With moral education and cultivating people as its fundamental task, and improving quality and pursuing connotative development as its main thread, the university will comprehensively deepen reforms, resolve development challenges, strengthen its distinctive features, and take more solid steps toward building a first-class women’s university.
