Xiwō Qiangzhai

“Xiwō Qiangzhai” is situated in Qīngpiàn Township, Qīang Autonomous County of Běichuān. It is the oldest, largest in area, most populous, and best-preserved in Qiang culture among all Qiang villages in the county. It also boasts the most beautiful natural scenery and is the only ancient Qiang village that has not been rebuilt in nearly three hundred years. The village features a typical alpine canyon landscape and lies at the heart of the Xiǎozhàizǐgōu area, a national nature reserve. It is part of the region with the most intact ecological preservation on the same latitude globally, and has been recognized by the United Nations Environment Programme as one of the areas where human, cultural, and natural ecosystems are most harmoniously integrated. It is also a rare global gene pool for flora and fauna, with over 147 negative oxygen ions per square centimeter in the air.

Qīngpiàn Township: A township under the jurisdiction of Běichuān County. In 1935, Máwō Township and Zàngqū Township were established here; in 1952, Máwō Zàngzú Autonomous Township was formed; in 1956, it was renamed Jiànshè Zàngzú Township; in 1958, it became a commune; in 1981, it was re-established as an ethnic township; and in 1984, it was renamed Qīngpiàn Qīangzú Zàngzú Township. Located in the northwest of the county, it is 47.5 kilometers from the county seat. Covering an area of 562 square kilometers, it has a population of 4,000. The road from Bàdǐ to the Qīngpiàn River Forestry Bureau of Mǐanyáng City runs through the township. It administers six village committees: Ānmián, Xīnà, Gāofēng, Cháwān, Shàngwǔ, and Zhènghé.
