Autumn is not only the season of maple leaves but also when pink cosmos flowers bloom in full glory. Like rapeseed flowers, cosmos are often planted as cover crops during fallow periods. The areas where rapeseed blossoms in spring usually become popular spots to admire cosmos in autumn. Moreover, cosmos are extremely easy to grow, allowing visitors to enjoy vast stretches of pink blooms without venturing too far from Korea’s urban centers.

Not far from Seoul, Guri Civic Han River Park boasts large flower fields, also known as the Cosmos Park. Spanning approximately 40,000 pyeong, the flower field is filled with rapeseed blossoms in May and transforms into a sea of cosmos in September, becoming a must-visit autumn destination for locals.

Among Korea’s cosmos festivals, the “Great Cosmos & Buckwheat Festival” in South Gyeongsang Province’s Gyeongju is the most famous, featuring over 40 hectares of massive flower fields each autumn. The blue sky, pink cosmos, and white buckwheat flowers create a picturesque scene in the tranquil countryside village.

The Bukcheon Great Cosmos & Buckwheat Festival, the most representative rural event in Hadong County, offers activities such as a Lucky Tunnel Walk, mudfish catching, strolls through cosmos and buckwheat flower fields, traditional games (shuttlecock kicking, throwing g Bauer, etc.), daily performances, hands-on craft experiences, local food tastings, DIY workshops, traditional rural life experiences, photography exhibitions, rural heritage displays, seasonal crop showcases, fresh farm produce exhibitions, and more.
