Tongjiang Tremella from Sichuan is widely renowned. To showcase the culture of tremella, its developmental history, as well as new technologies and products in related industries, all integrated with modern information technology, Bazhong City built the Tongjiang Tremella Museum in Gaoming New District, Tongjiang County. It is composed of six parts: the “Main Hall,” “Spirit of Heaven and Earth,” “Amidst Mist and Dew,” “Among Green Oak Forests,” “Tremella Families,” and “Image Plaza.” The Tremella Museum officially opened on October 17, 2014. Covering an area of 40,050 square meters with a building area of 6,000 square meters, its exhibition space of over 3,700 square meters is divided into seven major exhibition areas — “Heaven’s Gift,” “Earth’s Nurture,” “Human Culture,” “Harmony,” “Miraculous Efficacy,” “Joyful Enjoyment,” and “Tasting” — along with a 3D digital cinema.

Detailed Introduction to the Exhibition Areas of the Tongjiang Tremella Museum:

Exhibition Area 1: Magical Nature – Heaven’s Gift

A natural ecological forest space where you can walk through while being surrounded by birdsong, the sound of wind, and the murmuring of water. Tongjiang Tremella shines with an elegant glow at the magical 30th parallel north, and the unique ecological environment by the Mist and Dew Stream and the Nine Bends and Eighteen Mounds provides favorable conditions for the growth of Tongjiang Tremella. Here, a 180-degree giant projection scroll combined creatively with an artistic mountain model presents a multi-sensory feast, vividly and impressively recreating the unique landscape where Tongjiang Tremella grows.

Exhibition Area 2: Cultivation of the Exquisite – Earth’s Nurture

Tongjiang Tremella has gone through a long journey — from its initial discovery and consumption in nature, to conscious wild cultivation, and then to the development of cultivation methods for high-quality log-grown tremella. Historical documents and stone tablets issued by successive governments demonstrate the uniqueness of the oak tree as the sole wood used for cultivating Tongjiang Tremella. A combination of images and text creates an atmospheric display of tremella cultivation tools, while scenes of tremella farmers worshiping the mountain and their cultivation halls visually present the meticulous process of cultivating Tongjiang Tremella.

Exhibition Area 3: Timeless Aroma – Human Culture

“Tongjiang Tremella originated in the glorious Tang Dynasty, was consumed in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, used medicinally in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and was a delicacy in the imperial cuisine of the Qing court.” Walking through the historical and cultural corridor of Tongjiang Tremella, the silk-screened graphics on the folded walls present the history of Tongjiang Tremella in a chronological timeline. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Tongjiang Tremella was rare and hard to find among the upper class. A frozen scene of Empress Dowager Cixi strolling in the palace garden illustrates the ancient admiration for Tongjiang Tremella.

Exhibition Area 4: Trade Pathways – Harmony

In the trade history of Tongjiang Tremella, Chenhe marked the starting point of its commercial circulation. Crossing the distinctive stockaded village gate of Tongjiang and traveling back in time through the ancient streets of Chenhe during the Republican era, you can experience the charm of a “prosperous little Shanghai.” The shops lining the street are diverse, encapsulating the bustling scene of the Chenhe trading port during the Republican period.

Passing through the ancient streets of Chenhe and following the merchants who traded Tongjiang Tremella along the docks, you arrive at the vibrant streets of Shanghai, experiencing how the people of Tongjiang brought their tremella out of Chenhe, out of Tongjiang, out of Sichuan, and to the world.

Exhibition Area 5: Subtle Nourishment – Miraculous Efficacy

Through continuous exploration and research by the people of Tongjiang, the efficacy and value of Tongjiang Tremella have gradually become known. It is a valuable traditional Chinese medicine — step into a reconstructed Republican-era Chinese medicine hall and interact with a highly skilled traditional doctor to learn about the benefits of tremella in medicine. It is also a sublime tonic for strengthening the body and beautifying the skin. The walls display the various benefits of Tongjiang Tremella, and in a scientifically designed space showcasing its components, you can interactively explore how different elements of Tongjiang Tremella affect various parts of the human body.

Exhibition Area 6: Enjoyment Blueprint – Joyful Enjoyment

A simulated “Shenzhou-8” spacecraft cabin stands in the center of the space, with its magical electrolytic glass screen looping footage of Shenzhou-8 carrying Tongjiang Tremella spores into space. Entering the interior of the spacecraft feels like stepping into a space science laboratory. The surrounding area of the spacecraft cabin uses a combination of images, text, and multimedia to display the Tongjiang Tremella industry chain, development plans, the current state of edible fungi, and related products.

Exhibition Area 7: Delicacy and Charm – Tasting

The tasting space fully showcases the beauty of Tongjiang Tremella’s form, the purity of its flavor, the clarity of its color, and the richness of its culinary uses. It integrates content within space and atmosphere within mood, offering an exquisite gastronomic experience and allowing you to perceive the understated luxury of Tongjiang Tremella. Continuing into the adjacent Tremella Bar, you can actually taste the unique characteristics of different types of tremella.
