During their investigation, experts all pointed out that the future development of Tongjiang’s tourism industry cannot be separated from cultural communication, and there is a need to further enhance the overall image of the scenic areas to create a beautiful Tongjiang that is both enjoyable and livable.
“The Nuoshui River Scenic Area should develop comprehensively as a whole, with more supporting facilities built to maximize Tongjiang’s tourism potential, thereby providing more job opportunities for local residents and retaining more talent,” suggested Professor Yang Xiaoxia from Southwest University. She also recommended that the Shizi Cave focus primarily on geological sightseeing, targeting the general public; the Zhongfeng Cave could develop geological sightseeing, experiential activities, and adventure tourism, aiming at young and middle-aged visitors; while the Longhu Cave could offer cave leisure, health, and entertainment options, targeting middle-aged and elderly tourists.
Lu Yaoru also put forward five suggestions for the future development of Tongjiang’s tourism: adhering to protective development, focusing on diversifying cave resources, promoting the historical and cultural essence of Tongjiang’s tourism, emphasizing economic and educational benefits, and finally, developing Tongjiang’s resources through multiple channels to elevate its tourism industry.
“The karst caves in Tongjiang have gone to great lengths to preserve their original appearance, so in the future, it is essential to continue developing while protecting, and protecting while developing,” Lu Yaoru added. He also proposed that Tongjiang’s caves be divided into three parts for utilization: the most pristine sections for tourism development, another part for scientific research and exploration, and the remaining section developed into underground cave experiences. “The karst caves of Tongjiang are not just about tourism; the Nuoshui River Scenic Area should be developed into a demonstration zone for karst landform utilization, a green ecological demonstration zone, and a poverty alleviation demonstration zone for mountainous regions.”
