Bishan Scenic Area

Bishan Scenic Area. Bishan, also known as Qiujin Mountain or Cui Ping Mountain, is located on the southern bank of the county town and serves as a natural green barrier for the mountain city. Throughout history, many temples, shrines, and pavilions have been built in the mountains, each with its own unique features and cultural significance. In ancient times, a Baiyun Pavilion was erected at the mountain’s summit. The phrase “Gazing at Baiyun Summit from Bishan in Spring,” from the “Scenic Views of Tongjiang” section in the Old County Annals, refers to this very scene. On the stone beside the old Wenchang Palace on Bishan, there are two characters — “Fu” (Fortune) and “Shou” (Longevity) — each about two meters square. These were carved there by a monk named Puyi, who replicated the “Fu Shou” calligraphy originally inscribed by Chen Xiyi on Mount Hua, as found in the Huashan scenic area.
