Yan Yangchu Cultural Park

Dr. Yan Yangchu was a renowned educator of the common people and a founding figure in rural reform. Born in 1890 in Bazhou City, he passed away in New York, USA, in 1990 at the age of 100. In the early 20th century, he co-founded the Chinese National Association of the Mass Education Movement with Tao Xingzhi and others, dedicating his life to mass education.

To honor this great native son of Bazhong, Bazhou District built the Yan Yangchu Cultural Park on the summit of Tazishan Mountain (also known as Changbi Mountain), located 2.5 kilometers southeast of the city. The park covers an area of over 35,000 square meters. It features a 460-square-meter Yan Yangchu Cultural Museum; the tomb of Yan Yangchu, whose epitaph was written by Lei Jieqiong, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress; and a white marble statue of Yan Yangchu. The tomb of Dong Xiuwu, a pioneer of the 1911 Revolution, is also located within the park. Around the park are granite statues of famous historical figures from Bazhong, each standing four meters tall. In front of the park stands the Lingyun White Pagoda, a pavilion-style tower built in the 10th year of the Qing Dynasty’s Daoguang reign (1830), along with its surrounding temple courtyard where Buddhist activities are held. Outside the courtyard are various pavilions and terraces. From the mountainside of the park, visitors can enjoy views of the Ba River, a corner of Bazhong City, and the scenic beauty of Nan’an.
