Communication University of China Media Museum
The Communication University of China Media Museum is the first national comprehensive media museum in China that integrates five functions: "media cultural relic collection, media object display, media history research, media creative education, and media experience services." Its establishment fills two gaps in both China's museum categories and the media industry.
The four sub-museums under the Media Museum — covering broadcasting, television, film, and transmission — were completed and opened to the public on October 26, 2012, forming an exhibition layout of "four museums, seven exhibition halls, and one media technology corridor." The total exhibition area is approximately 3,000 square meters, with over 12,000 items in the collection, including 1,000 pieces of document archives and images, 4,000 audiovisual materials, and 7,000 media relics. It highlights important historical milestones in the development and rise of domestic and international radio, television, and film industries, reflecting the museum's philosophy of being a "thoughtful media museum" that emphasizes "historical heritage, profound foundation, detailed historical records, and the evolution of the times."
On December 26, 2012, it was approved by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics and became the 164th registered museum open to the public in Beijing. In 2013, it was awarded the title of "Citizens' Learning Base" by Beijing. On February 24, 2017, it was granted the title of "Beijing Science Popularization Base." On September 18, 2018, it was rated as a "National Third-Class Museum" by the National Cultural Heritage Administration and the Chinese Museums Association, becoming the only university museum in Beijing to receive this honor.
The Media Museum has been elected as the Deputy Director Unit of the Beijing University Museums Alliance, the Director Unit of the Beijing University Museums Professional Committee, the Director Unit of the New Media and Communication Professional Committee, and the Deputy Director Unit of the China University Museums Professional Committee.
The Communication University of China History Museum is an important cultural brand project of the university. It serves as a communication platform showcasing the university’s development history and achievements, a vital medium for promoting fine traditions and school spirit, a solidified embodiment of CUC culture, and a spiritual home that unites alumni. Opened to the public on June 18, 2019, the museum covers an exhibition area of about 1,600 square meters and is housed in the same building as the library and the Media Museum, together forming a public cultural service system integrating media education, media culture, and the media industry. The History Museum mainly consists of three areas: the basic exhibition of the university’s history, the teaching practice experience zone, and the teaching achievement display area. It utilizes photographs, texts, objects, and intelligent multimedia equipment to comprehensively present the university's development history, highlight its disciplinary features, academic strength, and significant contributions to the nation's journalism industry.
