Yunyang County Museum

Yunyang has a long history and preserves abundant relics. The launch of the Three Gorges Project led to the excavation of a large number of these cultural artifacts, with tens of thousands of unearthed relics. The museum’s displays select important objects for exhibition, using the most advanced display techniques categorized by different themes, making the exhibitions more attractive, inspiring, and closer to reality, life, and the people.

Yunyang County Museum, with a total construction area of 6,021.9 square meters and a usable area of 3,447 square meters, invested 13 million yuan in interior decoration and exhibition setup. It includes three major functional areas — the Visitor Reception Center, the permanent exhibition “Qurun Legacy,” and the special exhibition “Three Gorges Resettlement.”

I. Visitor Reception Center: Responsible for reception, inquiries, resting, and other functions

II. Permanent Exhibition: Qurun Legacy

Showcasing the essence of Yunyang’s history, it presents the development trajectory of Yunyang through five thematic displays. The museum houses a large collection of precious cultural relics, vividly recreating Yunyang’s history and glory.

(I) Dawn of Civilization

Focusing on the Dapiping Site, it displays the historical civilization of Yunyang during the Neolithic Age.

(II) The Grandeur of the Ba State

Centered around the Lijiaba Site, it showcases the mysterious Ba State, the Ba people, and Ba culture.

(III) The Prosperity of Salt in Yunyang

Displays the prosperity brought by the rise and development of the salt industry, as Yunyang was a renowned salt capital in the Three Gorges region.

(IV) Rise and Fall of Towns

Through three cases — the Han Dynasty Qurun County Site, the Tang Dynasty Mingyueba Site, and the salt hub town of Yun’an — it illustrates the development and changes in Yunyang’s urban evolution.

(V) Sparks of Revolution

Displays the activities and struggles of the underground Communist Party in Yunyang during the revolutionary years.

III. Special Exhibition: Three Gorges Resettlement

Recreates the grand event of the Three Gorges Resettlement and showcases the development of Yunyang’s new city during the resettlement era.

The long, splendid, and glorious history of Yunyang is crystallized here. Each exhibit stands quietly, seemingly lifeless, yet from them we can feel the vitality of history unfolding before us. Here, we can witness the activities of our ancestors hundreds of thousands of years ago, understand the developmental trajectory of Yunyang since recorded history, and explore the various cultural phenomena that have emerged since the existence of humans. These are all precious legacies left by our ancestors. Thanks to them, we have a solid foundation; thanks to them, we can better inherit and promote the excellent culture and national spirit of the Chinese nation, strengthening our national cohesion.
