On June 23, the Chongqing Municipal Tourism Bureau and Tujia.com held a press conference in Beijing to announce their strategic partnership. The theme of the event, “Chongqing: A Must-Visit Destination with Tujia’s Warm Hospitality,” reflects the collaborative spirit between the two parties. This marks Tujia.com’s second strategic partnership with a regional tourism authority following its collaboration with the Shandong Provincial Tourism Bureau, which introduced the joint brand “Hospitality Shandong Meets Tujia,” and represents another cross-sector collaboration between a government body and the vacation rental industry. The strategic cooperation between the two parties will serve as a milestone in exploring new models of regional leisure tourism, supporting regional tourism real estate, advancing the national urbanization strategy, and implementing the National Leisure Outline.

Deepening Urbanization Strategy and Implementing the National Leisure Outline

For the Chongqing Municipal Government, this strategic partnership with Tujia.com is also an important step in deepening urbanization and implementing the National Leisure Outline.

As one of China’s five national central cities and known by the nicknames “Mountain City” and “City of Bridges,” Chongqing has seen its economic output and local fiscal growth rank among the highest in the nation. In addition to its well-developed urban core, the city also encompasses vast rural areas. Amid the new wave of urbanization, the challenge for the Chongqing Municipal Government is how to drive development in the “big rural” areas with the momentum of the “big city.” Within Chongqing’s urbanization strategy, tourism development is a key strategic pillar, and the development of tourism real estate requires innovative business models. The strategic partnership with Tujia.com provides local real estate companies in Chongqing with an innovative model for managing tourism-related properties. Through Tujia’s “property management” and “vacation rental hosting” services, real estate developers can invest and develop with greater confidence, while property owners can purchase with more peace of mind.

Coincidentally, earlier this year, Chongqing issued guidelines for implementing the “National Tourism Leisure Outline (2013–2020),” which emphasized key strategies such as building destination industry clusters, promoting the integration of tourism leisure with related industries, and fostering tourism enterprise clusters. These initiatives align perfectly with the innovative vacation rental accommodation model offered by Tujia.com and cater to the growing trends of family travel, independent travel, nearby travel, and themed travel. Chongqing boasts abundant tourism resources, including the international leisure metropolis that combines the identities of a “Mountain City,” “River City,” and “City That Never Sleeps,” as well as world-class attractions like the Three Gorges and the Three Gorges Reservoir. Other renowned sites include Fengjie’s Baidi City, Fuling’s White Crane Ridge, Fengdu’s Famous Mountains, Fengjie’s Heavenly Pit and Earth Crack, Wanzhou’s Great Waterfall, Wuxi’s Red Pond Plateau, and Yunyang’s Longgang. With strong support from the Chongqing Municipal Tourism Bureau, Tujia will collaborate with local real estate developers, travel agencies, and other institutions in Chongqing to revitalize tourism-related real estate, reduce vacancy rates, improve service standards in the tourism industry, increase local employment, and invigorate the market—setting a benchmark for new models of tourism collaboration.
