Chongqing to Build World’s Longest Glass Walkway – Take a Stroll 1,000 Meters Above a Cliff

Want to try a “stroll in the air” 1,000 meters above a cliff? The Longgang Scenic Area in Yunyang, Chongqing, is currently constructing the world’s longest glass walkway, expected to open to the public this May. It will allow visitors to step out over a cliff at an altitude of 1,123 meters and enjoy a 720-degree view of the Chongqing landscape.

According to Wenwei Net, the glass walkway weighs 900 tons and is built without steel frame support. It is 26.68 meters long in total, with the section suspended over the cliff stretching 21.34 meters—5 meters longer than the Grand Canyon Skywalk in the U.S. When visitors walk across, they can enjoy a 720-degree view of the Longgang, Shisun River, and Gaixiaba Reservoir, or gaze straight down at the 718-meter-deep chasm beneath their feet.

The head of the Longgang Scenic Area said that the suspended glass walkway, together with an adjacent exhibition hall and ticket booth, forms the shape of a flower petal. The walkway itself represents the bud, while the two side structures are the petals. The glass walkway and surrounding facilities are expected to be completed by the end of April this year and will open to the public for a daring trial run during the May Day holiday.
