Shishandi Mountain Village

The Shishandi Mountain Village scenic area is located 0.5 kilometers from the Wupai River Rafting Dock, known as “China’s Best Rafting Destination,” and is an important part of the Wupai River tourism series. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, this clean and tidy village is a Model Well-Off and Civilized Village, a Model New Rural Construction Village, and a Tomato Planting Demonstration Base in Ziyuan County. It is also one of China’s Million Farmhouse Tourism Villages in 2007.

Nestled among green mountains and inhabited by people with simple and sincere folkways, the village features a freely flowing stream in front of the houses, the sounds of chickens and dogs echoing from nearby homes, and a peaceful retreat far from the hustle and bustle of the city. Bamboo fences around the yards often display hanging fruits and vegetables. The area preserves well-maintained traditional Wupai-style residences. Strolling along the country paths around the village allows you to enjoy the four-season pastoral scenery; walking along small trails lets you head to the Wupai River for an exciting canyon rafting experience; and following the stream upstream leads you to the Longdong Gorge Waterfall and cascading springs.

Here, you can find poetic scenes like withered vines, ancient trees, small bridges, and flowing water, as well as wild charm such as scattered rocks, moss, and dense grass. There is also the romantic beauty of blooming mountain flowers, chirping crickets, and croaking frogs. In spring, you can taste fresh seasonal vegetables; in summer, you can hide under waterfalls and streams to enjoy a natural bath; in autumn, you can pick fruits like tomatoes; and in winter, you can sit around a farmhouse fire, roast sweet potatoes, and sip a cup of Miao-style rice wine for a delightful time.

The Longdong Gorge, which has undergone initial development, is approximately 2 kilometers long. Within this narrow valley, natural attractions are distributed according to local beautiful folk legends, including Twin Rocks, Nine Pools and Two Waterfalls along a Colorful Stream, and the Half-Copper Mirror Fallen into Seven Ravines. The gorge boasts clear water, fresh air, and colorful rocks. It is rich in plant life, with ancient vines and twisted branches shading the valley, and some sections remain shaded year-round. The stream is clear with peculiar rocks, and mosses and aquatic plants add a touch of wild charm.

Longdong Gorge served as the canoeing route for the “2008 China City Orienteering Championship.” Whether for leisure vacations, swimming to escape the heat, or participating in outdoor activities like canoeing, Longdong Gorge is your ideal water-loving paradise.

Transportation Guide

From Ziyuan County Town to Shishandi Mountain Village Scenic Area

Option 1: Take a Shuttle Bus

The distance from Ziyuan County Town to the scenic area is 33 kilometers, taking about one hour. Buses run every 20 minutes from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

After arriving in Ziyuan County Town, cross the Wind and Rain Bridge, and look for the shuttle bus marked “Ziyuan–Hekou.” Board the bus and simply inform the driver that you want to get off at the Shishandi Rural Commune. The fare is 8 RMB per person.

Option 2: Take a Taxi

Many green Geely-brand taxis, which can accommodate up to four passengers, are available at the entrance of the Ziyuan County Town bus station. The taxi fare to the scenic area ranges from 50 to 70 RMB.
