Qingshi Reservoir

Qingshi Reservoir is located upstream of the Li River, 28 kilometers from downtown Guilin and 19 kilometers from the county seat of Lingchuan. The scenic area consists of East Lake, West Lake, and Gongping Lake, covering a total area of 170 square kilometers, with a water surface of about 30 square kilometers, land area of 141.7 square kilometers, and a water storage capacity of 600 million cubic meters. It is known as the “No. 1 Lake in South China.” It is the closest and largest pristine ecological nature reserve to Guilin.

Qingshi Reservoir gets its name from a green mountain near the lake that resembles a lion. The lake water is crystal clear, home to over 20 species of fish. The lake features numerous small islands scattered across its surface. A boat ride reveals vast, endless blue waters; deep, winding valleys twist through the landscape. The area’s primeval forests are covered with entwined vines and expansive bamboo groves that are lush and vibrant. Over 30 species of wild animals roam the region, where the ecosystem remains well-preserved. Scattered around the lakeshore are villages of ethnic minorities including the Miao, Yao, Dong, and Zhuang peoples, each with their own distinctive, simple folk customs and rich cultural charm.

The scenic area includes the Qingshi Reservoir Dam, which is the largest large-scale reservoir in Guangxi primarily designed for flood control and as a water source. It is also a major water source for the Li River.

In 1994, it was approved by the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as a “Provincial-level Tourist Resort.”

Admission to the scenic area is 10 RMB per person, and boat rides cost 20 RMB per person.

Transportation

1. From Beiji Square in Guilin, you can take a minibus to Lingchuan County Town (2 RMB per person).

2. From Lingchuan County Town, there are minibuses to Qingshi Reservoir (4 RMB per person).
