Longquan Rock Scenic Area is a Guangxi provincial-level scenic spot, located on Lufeng Mountain in Chenghuang Town, Xingye County, Yulin City, Guangxi Province. It lies 1.5 kilometers southwest of the town center and 59 kilometers from downtown Yulin. The area primarily features mountain and karst cave landscapes, complemented by pastoral fields and forest scenery. The cave views, mountain vistas, water scenes, and forest landscapes complement one another, blending seamlessly to enhance each other’s beauty.

Longquan Rock Scenic Area is situated 1 kilometer east of Chenghuang in Xingye County, Guangxi, nestled within Lufeng Mountain. The Longquan Rock cave stretches 1,256 meters in length and contains a stream along with five main chambers. Inside the cave, stalagmites take on a myriad of shapes. A spectacular array of formations—including “Dragon Palace Hall,” “Millennium Banyan,” and “Southern Scenery”—are created by numerous stalactites, stalagmites, stone curtains, and stone flowers. Longquan Rock is famed for its three wonders: the extraordinary caves, the clear waters, and the beautiful rocks. Beyond the mountain pass of Longquan Rock lies the Longquan Rock Scenic Area, which was once a site for anti-Japanese troop encampments—legend has it that soldiers were promoted three ranks here. On the mountain, a century-old wild vine cascades dramatically from the cliffs down into the deep valley, making it another unique highlight of Lufeng Mountain.

Among the many tourist caves, Longquan Rock Scenic Area stands out uniquely. Lufeng Mountain is a karst rocky peak with undulating summits, lush vegetation, and picturesque green hills and clear waters. The entrance to Longquan Cave is right at the foot of the mountain. This cave is formed by numerous karst caverns and an underground river, stretching over 1,200 meters in length. The interior resembles a grand, spiraling hall divided into upper and lower levels. In the lower water cave, a clear stream winds its way for about 1,000 meters. The streambed consists of sand and stones, allowing visitors to wade through the water, which is clear and no deeper than the knees. Walking along the stream, visitors encounter ever-changing scenery reminiscent of the poetic line “lost among mountains with no path in sight, then suddenly coming upon a village bright with willows and flowers.”

The dry cave consists of five large chambers connected in sequence. Each chamber houses a concentrated array of attractions, capable of accommodating tens of thousands of visitors. The cave features a dazzling variety of formations made up of stalactites, stalagmites, stone curtains, and stone flowers, all remarkably lifelike and diverse in shape. Many stalactites on the cave walls resemble waterfalls, forests, or candles. Ascending the stone steps leads to a spacious, gently sloping hall where clusters of stone pillars and mushroom-like formations rise from the ground. The cave walls are adorned with stone drapes and curtains, resembling the three-dimensional backdrops of a stage. Further up the steps is a semi-circular, sloping hall filled with even more elaborate sights—some resemble neatly arranged window blinds, elegant and refined; others look like intricately embroidered carvings, diverse in form; some mimic the patterns of farmland fields. There is also a “Fairy Bed,” “Fairy Chair,” and several “Fairy Footprints.” Climbing an additional 52 steps leads into a grand “Dragon Palace,” where the surrounding space is filled with three-dimensional sculptures, offering a dazzling spectacle. Throughout the entire cave, countless attractions each possess their own unique charm, further enriched by historical and folk legends that spark the imagination. Visitors may feel both serene and awestruck, marveling at the mythical tales of history as well as the breathtaking craftsmanship of nature.

Longquan Rock is famed for its three wonders: the extraordinary caves, the clear waters, and the beautiful rocks. The natural landscape of the scenic area is characterized mainly by its wonder, serenity, danger, majesty, and beauty. Key cultural sites include the Li Zongren military encampment ruins, the North Emperor Pavilion, Hualong Spring, and Hualong Temple. Crossing the mountain pass of Longquan Rock leads to the site of Li Zongren’s troop encampment. On the mountain, a century-old wild vine cascades dramatically from the cliffs down into the deep valley, making it another unique highlight of Lufeng Mountain. The Qing Dynasty’s “Yuzhou Annals” record the folk legend of “Li Long and his wife carving caves and turning into dragons to become immortals,” which, together with a sorrowful spring that flows continuously in the cave, gives the cave its name “Longquan Cave” (Dragon Spring Cave).
