Beijing, April 6 — On the morning of April 6, the General Administration of Sport of China held a press conference in Beijing, announcing that the 5th China Baise Leye International Mountain Outdoor Sports Challenge and the 20th China Leye Asian Climbing Championship 2012 will be held from April 25 to 28 in Leye County. Attendees included leaders from the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Sports Bureau, relevant leaders from Baise City and Leye County, as well as journalists from 25 domestic media outlets.
Conquering Tiankengs
In recent years, in order to fully leverage Leye’s unique natural and cultural resources, build China’s most outdoor-oriented town and a national-level rock climbing training base, promote the vigorous development of mass sports activities in Leye County, and truly establish outdoor sports as a more prestigious and high-profile international event—further serving as a platform and window for Leye to showcase itself to the world—the Leye County Party Committee and County Government have focused on enhancing the county's overall visibility while placing special emphasis on the establishment and growth of outdoor sports and rock climbing, which naturally align with tourism. Together with the Chinese Mountaineering Association, they have jointly established the “China Mountain Outdoor Sports Training Base.”
Since 2006, Leye County has successfully hosted four editions of the International Mountain Outdoor Sports Challenge and two national rock climbing competitions. Its outstanding organizational work and high-standard venue conditions have received high praise and wide recognition from the General Administration of Sport of China and athletes from around the world. This year, while hosting the 5th International Mountain Outdoor Sports Challenge, Leye has also been honored with the opportunity to organize the 20th Asian Climbing Championship.
At that time, the strength and power of outdoor athletes will harmonize with the grace and agility of rock climbers in the county’s tiankengs and fissures, creating a captivating scene of harmony between humans and nature.
